Bauhaus & Modern
In 2019, Germany celebrated the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Bauhaus. Founded in Weimar in 1919 by Walter Gropius, the Bauhaus experienced its heyday in Dessau between 1925 and 1932. To this day, the influence of the Hochschule für Gestaltung is formative for contemporary architecture, design and art. The Bauhaus building in Dessau is regarded worldwide as an icon of modernism and, together with the Masters’ Houses, has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1996. In 2017, the Bauhaus World Heritage Site was expanded to include the arcade houses.
Only in Dessau can you visit the original sites and Bauhaus buildings or eat like the Bauhäusler in the refectory and spend the night in the studio building. In addition, the Bauhaus Museum Dessau presents the second largest Bauhaus collection in the world.
