In the realm of industrial culture
Today, unique cultural and recreational landscapes have emerged from ecological hotspots in the former industrial area between Bitterfeld-Wolfen and Lutherstadt Wittenberg. This tour takes you on a journey through this fascinating structural change and shows you milestones of industrial history. Where once excavators dug into the earth and brought lignite to the surface, today the Goitzsche lake region stretches out before the gates of the city of Bitterfeld with a wide range of offers for water sports enthusiasts, recreation seekers and nature lovers.
On the outskirts of Gräfenhainichen lies FERROPOLIS – the “City of Iron”. With its five dredging giants, FERROPOLIS is a living open-air museum unique in the world.
